Alaska Airlines Flight Cancellations After System-Wide Technical Outage

Major Disruption at Alaska Airlines Due to System Outage
Alaska Airlines recently faced a significant disruption after a technical error caused its entire system to go down for three hours. This incident led to the cancellation of numerous flights, and while operations have since resumed, some residual impacts are still being felt.
The outage occurred around 8 p.m. Pacific Time on Sunday, resulting in a temporary, system-wide ground stop for both Alaska Airlines and its subsidiary, Horizon Air. The company confirmed the issue via a social media post, stating that it would take time to return to normal operations. “As we reposition our aircraft and crews, there will most likely be residual impacts to our flights,” the statement read.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also confirmed the ground stop for all Alaska Airlines mainline and Horizon Air flights. Reports of the outage began to surface around 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time, with the number of incidents spiking by 10:30 p.m. and continuing to rise as of 11:45 p.m., according to DownDetector.
Passengers were among those affected by the outage. One such passenger, Chris Fabregas, shared his experience with the Mirror US. He was stuck on the tarmac at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after returning from Nashville. According to Fabregas, the airline informed passengers that all systems were down upon landing, preventing them from reaching the gate. He added that the pilot mentioned their plane was fourth in line to reach the gate, with 20 planes behind them. However, the airport has not officially confirmed these details.
Fabregas described the situation as chaotic, noting that the airline told passengers that all computers were down across the United States for Alaska Airlines. “They said planes cannot leave the gates and we cannot get to the gates,” he said.
In its official statement, Alaska Airlines acknowledged the disruption and reiterated that it would take time to restore full operations. The airline has not yet provided further details or comments beyond this initial statement.
