Tragedy Strikes as Lebanon Doctor and Pilot Dies in Aircraft Crash

A tragic incident occurred on Sunday, July 20, when a Lebanon doctor and licensed private pilot lost his life in a plane crash shortly after takeoff from Lancaster Airport. The Northern Lancaster County Regional Police confirmed the incident, marking a devastating loss for the community.

The aircraft involved was a PA-46-500TP Malibu Meridian with the tail number N819MA. It crashed around 8 a.m. in a cornfield near the 500 block of Stauffer Road in Warwick Township—just a few hundred yards northeast of the airport’s runway, according to Sgt. Adam Webber during a press briefing.

The pilot, 58-year-old Dr. Musaddiq "Mo" Nadeem Nazeeri of Lebanon, was the sole occupant of the plane. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office at 8:51 a.m.

FAA and NTSB Lead Investigation

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the Piper PA-46 took off from Lancaster Airport before the crash. Initially, FlightAware logs suggested a departure from Myerstown, but authorities have since clarified that the flight originated in Lancaster.

Emergency responders included the Warwick Emergency Services Commission, Rothsville Fire Co. No. 1, Lititz Fire Company, Lancaster Airport staff, and the coroner’s office. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading the federal investigation, while local police are securing the scene until the process is complete.

Dr. Nazeeri’s body was transported to the Lancaster County Forensic Center for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Licensed Pilot with Medical Certification

According to FAA records, Dr. Nazeeri held a Private Pilot License for Airplane Single Engine Land and had a Class 3 medical certificate. This certification allows for private, non-commercial flights under both Visual and Instrument Flight Rules (VFR/IFR).

Longtime Physician and Leader in Flying Physicians Association

Dr. Nazeeri was not only a dedicated physician but also a prominent figure in the Flying Physicians Association (FPA). He served as the former vice president of the Northeast Chapter of the FPA, holding various roles on its board from 2021 to 2023. The organization brings together physicians who are also licensed pilots and offers annual CME events and networking opportunities.

He practiced family medicine in Lebanon since 2001 and was the founding physician at Nazeeri Family Medicine. Dr. Nazeeri earned his bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Michigan, a master's degree in Science from the University of Oregon, and his medical degree from Wayne State University College of Medicine. He completed his residency at Penn State’s Family and Community Medicine Residency Training Program.

He was affiliated with several medical organizations, including the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the PA Medical Society Clinically Integrated Network, and Penn State Hershey Medical Center.

Previous Legal Settlement

In 2022, Dr. Nazeeri agreed to pay $86,506.30 to resolve civil liability under the False Claims Act. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania alleged that between February 2021 and January 2022, he billed Medicare for Evaluation & Management (E&M) services that were not documented, typically when only COVID-19 vaccines were administered. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the investigation.

Dr. Nazeeri cooperated fully with the investigation, and the resolution included no admission of liability, according to federal court records.

Survived by Family

Dr. Nazeeri is survived by his wife and five children, according to his social media and public records. Additional information about him was not immediately available.
