Emirates has introduced a fresh collection of upcycled accessories, crafted from materials that would have otherwise been discarded during its ongoing fleet retrofit program. This innovative range includes bags and luggage, offering aviation enthusiasts a unique way to carry their belongings while embracing the airline's rich heritage.

The prices for these items vary, with the most expensive piece costing $350. However, there are more affordable options available, making it accessible for a wider audience. Additionally, part of the proceeds from these sales supports charitable causes linked to Emirates, adding an extra layer of value to each purchase.

The Aircrafted Collection: A Fusion of Design and Sustainability

Those familiar with Emirates' design philosophy will recognize the airline’s preference for light and creamy tones, evoking the desert landscapes of the UAE. This aesthetic is now reflected in the new "Aircrafted" line of upcycled products. These exclusive items are made from excess materials collected during the airline's cabin retrofit program, which involves both Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft.

According to Emirates, over 30,000 kg of materials have been repurposed from 63 retrofitted aircraft. The process is meticulous, as all the Aircrafted bags are designed and handmade by Emirates tailors at a dedicated workshop within the Emirates Engineering facility in Dubai. The team consists of 14 individuals, officially known as Engineering Maintenance Assistants, who typically handle repairs and stitching on the interiors of the airline's aircraft.

A Second Line of Upcycled Products

This marks the second time Emirates has launched a line of bags and luggage made from excess materials gathered during its retrofit initiative. The first collection, released in November 2023, raised over $17,000 for children in need through the Emirates Airline Foundation. The current line follows a similar approach, with most of the proceeds also being donated to the foundation.

The current collection features four different items, priced between $80 and $350. While the purse and handbag come in a single color, the backpack offers two finish options—grey or ivory. The roller cabin bag, the most popular item from the previous line, is available in subtle shades such as sandstone, cloud grey, and midnight.

Flexible Payment Options

For those looking to acquire these accessories without spending cash, Emirates offers the option to use Skywards miles. The conversion rate is 200 points per dollar, meaning the products range from 16,000 to 70,000 miles depending on the item.

Giving Back Through Upcycled Luggage

Beyond the financial contributions, Emirates has also donated upcycled bags to various charitable causes. The airline states that while some of the proceeds cover operational costs, the remaining funds go directly to the Emirates Airline Foundation.

In addition to this, Emirates has been known to distribute these bags to communities in need. For example, in June 2024, the airline donated bags to children in early education projects across Africa and Asia. The initiative has also benefited educators, as seen in October 2024 when Emirates donated 100 backpacks to South African teachers in Johannesburg. These backpacks were made from recycled leather sourced from its aircraft.
