Community Events in Humboldt County This Week

Humboldt County is buzzing with a variety of community events this week, offering something for everyone. From music and art to local sales and outdoor activities, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved and enjoy the vibrant culture of the area.

Wine & Jazz at the Morris Graves Museum of Art

Today, July 20, from 3 to 5 p.m., the Morris Graves Museum of Art will host “Wine & Jazz,” featuring Anna Hamilton and The Situation. Anna Hamilton brings her solid songwriting, sparkling guitar work, and torchy vocals to the stage, backed by local musicians Mat Hanf on drums and Dave Wilson Jr. on bass. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for seniors, military veterans, and students with ID, while children 17 and under, families with an EBT card, and museum members can attend for free.

Books for Sale at the Eureka Library

The Friends of the Redwood Libraries will hold their biggest sale of the year on Friday and Saturday, July 25 and 26, at the Eureka Library located at 1313 Third St. The sale hours will be from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. both days. On Friday, the sale is exclusive to members, but memberships can be obtained at the door. Saturday’s sale is open to the public. Everything at the sale is priced at just $2 a bag, including fiction in most genres, both hardback and paperback, as well as non-fiction books, cookbooks, magazines, CDs, DVDs, and a wide range of children's books. Credit cards are accepted, and small bills are appreciated for cash payments. Proceeds will support the entire Humboldt County Library system.

Grange Breakfast

Humboldt Grange No. 501 will serve breakfast on Saturday, July 26, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the grange hall located at 5845 Humboldt Hill Road, Eureka. The cost is $10 for a large breakfast, which includes two scrambled eggs, two link sausages or one patty sausage, two pancakes or two biscuits and gravy. A smaller breakfast is available for $7, featuring one scrambled egg, one link sausage or sausage patty, one pancake or one biscuit and gravy. All breakfasts come with coffee or tea.

Trail Workday

The Redwood Parks Conservancy is seeking volunteers for a trail brushing event on Saturday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Lower Redwood Creek Trail, located just north of Orick. Volunteers will meet at the Redwood Creek Trailhead parking lot off Little Bald Hills Road. The event involves clearing vegetation along a 1.5-mile stretch, removing litter, and ensuring the trail remains safe and enjoyable for all users. All tools, safety instructions, and light refreshments will be provided. Participants should wear sturdy boots and long pants and be prepared for moderate physical activity. Blackberry Fest

The Westhaven Ladies Club’s 65th annual Wild Blackberry Festival will take place on July 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Westhaven Fire Hall. To get there, take the Sixth Avenue exit to Westhaven. The event features homemade pies, jams, and jellies, live music, a barbecue, artisan vendors, beer, and wine. Proceeds will benefit the Westhaven Volunteer Fire Department.
