Long-Term Review: Nissan Qashqai Takes a Day Trip

A Unique Experience at Thorpe Park

As I approached a significant milestone in my life, a trip to a theme park was not something I had on my list of things to do. However, after some gentle encouragement from one of my adult daughters, I decided to give it a try. The result was an unforgettable day at Thorpe Park in Surrey, where I found myself exploring the park with her in a Nissan Qashqai that we had borrowed for work.

The journey around the M25 was surprisingly smooth, even during peak hours. The Qashqai made motorway driving feel effortless, and my daughter was particularly impressed by the car's comfortable interior. The spacious boot was filled with her belongings, along with a few items "borrowed" from us before she headed off to a music festival.

A Legacy of Innovation

To refresh our memory, the Qashqai first gained attention in 2007 as a pioneering vehicle in the crossover segment. At the time, it stood out with its elevated design, which was a fresh departure from the traditional saloon-style cars of the era. Since then, many manufacturers have followed suit, but the Qashqai has remained a top seller, celebrating its 18th anniversary in 2025.

Today’s models are equipped with user-friendly Google technology and a comprehensive list of safety features, ensuring continued popularity. The version we tested was a range-topping Tekna+ e-Power 2WD model, featuring a striking Two Tone Fuji Sunset Red paint job with a Pearl Black roof, making it a standout on the road.

Features That Impress

The Qashqai also boasts smart diamond-cut alloy wheels, enhancing its visual appeal. Inside, the cabin is luxuriously appointed with premium quilted leather upholstery and Alcantara trims. My daughter especially appreciated the Bose premium sound system with 10 speakers, while the head-up display proved to be a valuable addition to the driving experience.

One minor issue I encountered was with the 'walk-away' and 'approach' lock and unlock system, which didn't seem to function properly. However, I suspect that consulting the handbook would resolve this quickly.

Practicality and Versatility

Beyond the theme park adventure, the Qashqai has proven to be a versatile vehicle. It has been used for trips to Gloucestershire and South Wales to visit family and friends, as well as seasonal visits to DIY stores and garden centers. Its large, multi-layered boot has been particularly useful in these situations.

However, the day at Thorpe Park will remain a cherished memory. After experiencing some of the UK’s fastest and highest rollercoasters, the drive home in OW24KLO was pure bliss.
