Several communities have received significant funding as part of the SEDAP initiative:

• Boys & Girls Club of Poplar Bluff was awarded $509,000 to construct a workforce development center. This facility will serve as a hub for employment training, offering youth-oriented programs alongside educational opportunities that cover trade skills, life-skills development, and community college coursework.

• City of Fredericktown received $509,000 for a sewer main replacement project. The goal is to restore reliable service to residents, ensure the continued operation of the wastewater treatment plant, and protect local waterways. This initiative supports healthier living environments and fosters community growth.

• City of St. Mary was granted $509,000 for a wastewater treatment rehabilitation project. This investment addresses concerns about public health, system reliability, and future stability and growth in the area.

• City of Dexter received nearly $404,000 to install a state-of-the-art radar station. This technology will provide high-resolution imaging for meteorologists, enabling better monitoring and prediction of severe weather events that impact the safety and resilience of southeast Missouri.

• City of Portageville was awarded more than $388,000 to improve its water system infrastructure. This project aims to ensure safe, reliable drinking water and address immediate infrastructure needs within the community.

• City of Edgar Springs received more than $267,500 to support transportation system upgrades. These improvements will focus on enhancing the city’s main thoroughfare, addressing drainage issues, and creating a more resilient street surface that can withstand local traffic.

• City of Ellington was awarded $509,000 to improve the city’s water system infrastructure by installing a new water well. This project will provide a safe and reliable potable water supply for the community.

• Texas County Memorial Hospital was awarded approximately $432,000 to upgrade essential equipment and systems in its medical-surgery, intensive care, and emergency room units. This investment is crucial for preventing patient transfers, reducing medication errors, retaining full-time local jobs, and maintaining lifesaving care in a distressed rural region.

• Washington County Memorial Hospital received approximately $427,000 to construct a rural health care training center in Potosi, Missouri. This center will address critical healthcare workforce shortages by providing local training for nursing and allied health professionals.

• Village of Caledonia was awarded more than $256,000 for a flood mitigation project. This initiative will help reduce flooding of roadways, paving the way for a more resilient and sustainable transportation system.

Broader Impacts of the SEDAP Funding

According to the DRA, the SEDAP program is a vital tool for expanding and investing in the resiliency of the region’s public infrastructure and workforce. Dr. Corey Wiggins, DRA federal co-chairman, highlighted the significance of this investment, stating that it will result in the creation or retention of approximately 600 jobs, the training of 420 people, and the impact on nearly 4,000 families across 10 communities.
