Carnival Cruise Line Revises Loyalty Program in Response to Passenger Feedback

Carnival Cruise Line recently faced significant backlash from its loyal customers after announcing the launch of its new loyalty program, Carnival Rewards, set to debut in June 2026. The program marked a major shift from the company’s existing VIFP Club system, which had long rewarded passengers based on the amount of time they spent cruising with the brand. Instead, the new program places greater emphasis on how much money guests spend with Carnival.

For many longtime VIFP Club members, this change felt like a betrayal of their years of dedication. The most controversial aspect of the program was the decision to eliminate lifetime loyalty status for cruisers under the new structure. This move sparked outrage among passengers, who felt their loyalty was being undervalued.

In response to the growing discontent, John Heald, Carnival’s brand ambassador, stepped forward to advocate for the interests of loyal customers. He promised to act as their voice and push for changes within the company. His efforts proved effective when Carnival announced on September 15 that it would revise one of the most contentious aspects of the new program.

Enhancing the New Loyalty Program

Carnival has since made several modifications to the Carnival Rewards program to better serve its most dedicated travelers. Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line, acknowledged the importance of these loyal guests and expressed appreciation for their years of commitment.

“We are excited about our new Carnival Rewards loyalty program launching next year, and believe it will drive fantastic engagement with, and rewards for, our guests. At the same time, we greatly appreciate the loyalty of our passionate guests and the years of dedication many have exhibited in order to achieve higher tiered loyalty status with Carnival Cruise Line,” Duffy said.

The company has taken the summer to listen to feedback from passengers and is now making adjustments to ensure the program better reflects the value of its top-tier members.

Special Perks for Diamond VIFP Members

One of the most significant updates to the program is a special benefit for those at the highest level of the current VIFP Club—Diamond members. Passengers who achieve Diamond status in the VIFP Club by May 31, 2026, will now be granted lifetime Diamond status in the new Carnival Rewards program.

This decision was made in recognition of the hard work and dedication required to reach the top tier. However, due to operational challenges, Carnival cannot extend the same lifetime status to Platinum members. Instead, the company is offering them additional benefits.

Benefits for Platinum VIFP Members

Platinum members who achieve their status by May 31, 2026, will not only have their status extended through May 31, 2028, as previously announced. They will also receive a bi-annual boost of 10,000 Carnival Rewards status qualifying stars when the program launches on June 1, 2026, and every two years thereafter.

This enhancement gives Platinum members a 20% head start in earning their status and provides a stronger foundation for reaching the Diamond tier. Additionally, they will maintain at least Gold status in all future cycles under the new program.

Inclusivity for Minors

Carnival has also confirmed that children will receive the same status as their parent or adult designated as their responsible party on the booking. When minors turn 18, those who achieved Diamond or Platinum status by May 31, 2026, will be invited to opt-in to Carnival Rewards with their earned status and the same privileges as other Diamond and Platinum VIFP members.

These changes reflect Carnival’s commitment to addressing the concerns of its most loyal customers while still moving forward with the implementation of its new loyalty program.
