One of the standout features of Octopath Traveler is the ability to create a unique character with distinct abilities, favorite dishes, personal items, and a special appearance. However, as players progress through the game, they might find themselves wanting to change their initial design. Fortunately, the game offers a way to modify your character's look, though it requires some time and progression.

Unlocking the Ability to Change Appearance

At the start of the game, players can choose various options for their character’s design, including gender, sprite style, hairstyle, and color. These choices remain consistent throughout the game, giving each player a distinctive look compared to other non-player characters (NPCs).

However, if you're like many players who grow tired of your initial appearance, you'll be glad to know that changing your look is possible. The catch is that this feature isn't immediately available. You need to progress through the story and complete specific quests to unlock the option.

To begin, you must upgrade your town by completing the main campaign quest called "Kindlers of the Flame." This involves rebuilding Wishvale, recruiting NPCs, and overcoming several challenges. Once your town reaches level four, you will unlock the ability to build a salon. This typically happens around level 24, so you’ll need to invest some time in the game before this feature becomes accessible.

Accessing the Salon for Appearance Changes

Once the salon is built, you can start modifying your character's appearance. To do this, you need to place one of the recruited NPCs in the salon building and interact with them. This action will bring up the appearance menu, where you can reset your look.

When you access the appearance menu, you can make changes to your character’s design. After making your desired adjustments, press the button indicated by the "done" prompt at the bottom of the screen to confirm your new appearance.

What Can You Customize?

You can customize everything about your character that was available during the initial creation phase. However, there are limitations when you first unlock the salon. Initially, you can only change your character’s hairstyle and hair color. There are two additional hairstyles available to choose from at this stage.

To unlock more customization options, you need to upgrade the salon. Upgrading it to level two allows you to change your character’s motions and voice. When you reach level three, you gain the ability to modify your character’s body, face, eye color, and skin color. This also unlocks two additional eye colors for your character.

In total, upgrading the salon requires six Radiant Cornerstone. Be sure to collect this material during your journey to make the most of the customization options available. With each upgrade, you’ll have more control over your character's appearance, allowing you to tailor your experience to your preferences.
