What’s Happening in Jacksonville?

When will the Blue Angels roar back over Jacksonville Beach?
Aviation enthusiasts in the Jacksonville area have something to look forward to. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels are set to return for the Jacksonville Sea & Sky Air Show at Jacksonville Beach on October 23–24, 2027, and the NAS Jax Air Show on October 17–18, 2026. City leaders believe this event will highlight the region’s strong military community and attract large crowds to the beaches.

Will Jacksonville’s next jail be banned from historic Black neighborhoods?
There is growing concern about where the new Duval County jail might be placed. Councilmember Jimmy Peluso is working on a resolution that would prevent the future jail from being located in historically redlined or Black neighborhoods. This comes after frustration over a planned medical examiner’s office in Brentwood. While some council members believe it may be premature, others doubt a large jail would fit in residential areas anyway.

How will Jacksonville’s new $15 million investment reshape local careers?
The Jacksonville City Council has approved a $15 million package aimed at improving UNF’s Hodges Stadium, supporting workforce training at FSCJ and Edward Waters, and funding several apprenticeship programs. The plan includes shifting tourism tax dollars and creating a new builders’ training center. It also requires extra oversight before Edward Waters can use its share for campus expansion.

Other news highlights: - Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp sold: The beloved baseball team has been sold to Prospector Baseball Group, with City Council unanimously approving the deal under the VyStar Ballpark lease. New owners plan to build on recent stadium upgrades and strong attendance. - OCEARCH tracking a great white shark off Jacksonville coast: A 1,300-pound great white shark named Goodall has been detected just off Jacksonville Beach as part of her winter migration. Another larger shark named Contender is also pinging off the coast, and residents can follow their movements through OCEARCH’s public tracking tools.
