Megyn Kelly Supports Candace Owens in Debate Over Charlie Kirk’s Views on Israel
Megyn Kelly has publicly backed Candace Owens’ commentary regarding Charlie Kirk’s evolving views on Israel, particularly after his assassination. During an appearance on The Fifth Column podcast, Kelly described Owens as “brilliant” and defended her stance on the matter.
Since Kirk’s murder, Owens has made several controversial statements. She criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for sharing a line from a letter Kirk addressed to him, suggesting that Netanyahu’s invitation to Kirk was a veiled threat. She also accused Bill Ackman of threatening Kirk and encouraged her followers to remain skeptical of those who urge them to stop questioning the circumstances of Kirk’s death.
Kelly began her discussion by addressing the debate sparked by Owens, noting that she had been critical of Israel in the conflict. Kelly pointed out that Owens was upset about a foreign leader reading part of Kirk’s letter without providing its full context, as his views on Israel had changed in recent months. “She is not wrong about that,” Kelly said.
During the conversation, Kelly highlighted the tension between Kirk and pro-Israel advocates. She recalled a previous interview with Kirk where he expressed frustration over the criticism he faced. “He felt pressured and like his character was being assassinated by people who consider themselves more pro-Israel than him,” Kelly explained. She emphasized that Kirk refused to back down from his criticisms, stating that the more people tried to silence him, the more determined he became to speak out.
When Michael Moynihan interrupted to question Owens’ credibility, Kelly quickly defended her. “Candace is brilliant,” Kelly said. She cited a tweet from Owens claiming to have evidence of demands made to Kirk. However, Moynihan pointed out that Owens has a history of spreading conspiracy theories, including claims about Brigitte Macron being born a man.
Kelly acknowledged that Owens might not be everyone’s cup of tea but insisted that her argument should be taken seriously. “You don’t have to trust her,” she said. “But I just played you a four-minute exchange of Charlie saying—”
Moynihan cut her off, pointing out that Kirk had previously identified as a “stalwart Zionist” during their conversation. He questioned why Owens’ focus on Israel emerged so soon after Kirk’s death. “Why is it about the pet issue that she’s been talking about obsessively?” he asked.
Kelly dismissed the conspiracy theory that Israel was involved in Kirk’s assassination, though she did not fully endorse it. Instead, she focused on her broader concerns about the war in Israel. “I think Israel needs to wrap up this war,” she said. She referenced a previous conversation with Ben Shapiro, who argued that Israel’s initial stance of not stopping until all hostages were released may not be feasible. “They’re losing too much support,” Kelly added. “America is starting to turn on them, and that cannot happen.”
In response to Owens’ claims, Andrew Kolvet, executive producer of Kirk’s show, debunked the allegations against Bill Ackman. He confirmed that Kirk’s team was with him at all times except when he was in his hotel room. According to Kolvet, there was no evidence of Ackman pressuring Kirk or giving him a list of offenses against Israel.
Kirk’s pastor, Rob McCoy, also criticized Owens for her behavior. In a statement, he noted that Kirk never spoke poorly of Owens publicly and never engaged in gossip or innuendo about her. “I only wish at this tragic time of mourning she would be the friend to Charlie that he was to her,” McCoy wrote, referencing Proverbs 17:17: “A friend loves at all times.”
