A Last Message from Charlie Kirk

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem recently shared a poignant moment during an appearance on the New York Post's "Pod Force One with Miranda Devine." She revealed that her final communication with Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk occurred just one day before his tragic death. Noem explained that she had missed his message due to her travel schedule, which placed her in a different time zone.

"The last message he had texted me was the day before he passed away, and it said we have to hold these mayors and local officials accountable for what they're doing," Noem recalled. She believed that Kirk was observing the ongoing issues across the country where people were being victimized by illegal criminal activity and wanted someone to take responsibility.

The Tragic Death of Charlie Kirk

Kirk, a 31-year-old father of two, was shot and killed on September 10 at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He was struck in the neck while speaking to a large crowd under a white pop-up tent. He was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead later that afternoon.

Noem expressed her feelings about missing Kirk's final message, acknowledging that she felt bad but also believing that Kirk understood she was "on it." "I was traveling, in meetings in a different time zone and I didn't see it and missed it, and I will always feel bad that I didn't respond because I would have said, 'Absolutely, I'm on it,' which I am, but I think he knew that," she reflected.

Media Coverage and Political Violence

Devine asked Noem about the media's portrayal of Kirk as "controversial" and "provocative" in its coverage of his assassination. Noem addressed the broader issue of political violence, stating that she believes such acts have been carried out "by the left on conservatives almost entirely."

Devine questioned whether anything could be done about this situation. Noem responded positively, emphasizing the importance of having a president who speaks truth. "I think we are incredibly blessed that we have a president that speaks truth. To have someone that sits in that office and is out with people that will speak the truth to what is really happening in this country is powerful," she stated.

A Call for Awareness and Action

Noem continued to highlight the growing awareness among Americans following Kirk's assassination. She stressed that the Department of Homeland Security will remain "bold" in addressing the current situation.

"They're not going to get the truth… unless they do their research and unless they know, and they know that this has been an attack from liberal, leftist, extremist, radicalized individuals against conservatives trying to silence them," she told Devine.

Noem added that the department will continue to speak out about the issues facing the country. "And we'll continue to be bold in saying that because until eyes are opened up to what's really happening in this country and how it's changing, we can't do better," she concluded.
