Hidden Gem at Disneyland: A Top Favorite People Overlook

A New Favorite in Disney California Adventure
Disney California Adventure is home to some of the most exceptional dining experiences at the Disneyland Resort. Whether it's the park’s strong California theme, the pressure to match the culinary excellence of its neighboring counterpart, or the more relaxed alcohol policy that allows for upscale options, the restaurants here offer a unique and memorable experience. One recent addition has quickly become a standout: the Carthay Circle Lounge.
A Hidden Gem with an Outdoor Vibe
Located on the bottom floor of the Carthay Circle Restaurant building, the Carthay Circle Lounge offers a blend of indoor and outdoor seating. This space was first introduced in 2019 and expanded into a permanent outdoor dining area after the parks reopened in 2021. The setting is perfect for those looking to enjoy the vibrant energy of Buena Vista Street while still feeling removed from the crowds.
The lounge is part of the larger Carthay Circle Restaurant, which is known for its high-quality cuisine and creative dishes. It is helmed by Chef Andrew Sutton, who also oversees other prestigious restaurants such as Napa Rose, Club 33, and 21 Royal. Although this lounge is the most casual of the spaces under his direction, his influence is clearly felt in the menu and overall dining experience.
A Unique Dining Experience
Initially, I thought of the Carthay Circle Lounge more as a place to grab a drink than a full-service restaurant. However, a recent meal here changed my perspective. The balance between lounge-style food and full entrees was impressive, making it a great option for both casual and more formal dining.
During our visit, we were seated at an outdoor high table that offered a great view of Buena Vista Street. The atmosphere was lively, with the Five and Dime performance adding to the ambiance. The warm summer evening made the experience even more enjoyable, and we felt far removed from the hustle and bustle of the park.
Creative and Fresh Dishes
The menu at Carthay Circle Lounge features a variety of creative and fresh dishes that stand out from typical theme park fare. Some highlights from our meal included:
- Spring Rolls with Spicy Crab: Cold spring rolls with cucumber, edamame, crab, and a Thai basil flavor.
- Moroccan Roasted Chicken Meatballs: Served with pomegranate relish and tzatziki, these were a flavorful choice.
- Chilled Shrimp Escabeche: A refreshing dish with mango, cucumber, and aqua Chile.
- North African Roasted Organic Chicken Breast: Moist and filling, served with turmeric rice and spicy harissa.
- Filet Mignon Beef Skewers: Tender and delicious, paired with Peruvian stewed beans.
Each dish showcased a commitment to quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation.
Excellent Service and Atmosphere
The service at the Carthay Circle Lounge was attentive without being overbearing. The staff seemed well-trained and focused on providing a comfortable experience rather than rushing guests through. This balance between efficiency and hospitality made the meal even more enjoyable.
A Must-Visit for Food Lovers
With its unique setting, creative menu, and excellent service, the Carthay Circle Lounge is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience something different at Disney California Adventure. I plan to return soon and look forward to trying the next changes to their ever-evolving menu.
If you're planning a trip to the Disneyland Resort, be sure to check out the Carthay Circle Lounge for a dining experience that truly reflects the spirit of California.
