Carnival Cruise Line Elevates Vacations with Prime Port Upgrades

Expanding Horizons: Carnival Cruise Line's 2027/2028 Plans for U.S. Home Ports
Carnival Cruise Line has been making waves with its ambitious plans for the 2027 and 2028 cruise seasons, particularly in U.S. home ports outside of Florida. While Florida remains a key market for the cruise line, Carnival is proving that secondary markets are not just an afterthought but integral to its growth strategy. The company is committed to offering more variety and choice for travelers across the country, ensuring that vacationers can find exciting options close to home.
One of the most significant developments is the introduction of Carnival Journeys Hawaii, which marks the first dedicated series of Hawaii cruises from southern California. Starting in October 2027, the Carnival Legend will embark on 14-day voyages to Hawaii, offering multiple itinerary options. These sailings will include calls in Honolulu, Maui, Kauai, Hilo, and Kona, as well as a stop in Ensenada, Mexico. In addition to the Hawaii itineraries, the ship will also offer six- and eight-day Mexican Riviera cruises with stops in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán, Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, and Ensenada.
The Carnival Legend, a Spirit-class ship, can accommodate 2,134 passengers and features family-friendly amenities such as the Green Thunder waterslide and the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat. It’s designed to provide a lively yet relaxing atmosphere for all types of travelers.
A New Era for Norfolk, Virginia
In May 2027, Carnival will reposition the Carnival Freedom from Port Canaveral, Fla., to Norfolk, Va. This move is part of the company’s plan to offer the most diverse cruise program ever from the region. After a special 15-day Carnival Journeys cruise across the southern Caribbean, the Conquest-class ship will begin its new season in Norfolk.
The new itineraries from Norfolk include six-day Bahamas cruises visiting Celebration Key, Nassau, and Bimini, as well as six-day Bermuda cruises featuring two days of exploration in Bermuda. Eight-day eastern Caribbean itineraries will take passengers to destinations like Amber Cove, RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, and Grand Turk. Additionally, the Carnival Freedom will offer eight-day voyages to Canada, with stops in Halifax, Sydney, Saint John, or Charlottetown.
Passengers aboard the nearly 3,000-passenger Carnival Freedom can enjoy signature experiences such as the WaterWorks waterpark and the legendary RedFrog Pub, ensuring a memorable voyage for all.
Continued Commitment to Baltimore
North of Norfolk, the Carnival Pride will continue its more than 20-year-long run in Baltimore for the 2027/2028 season. The ship offers a wide range of itinerary options, from the Mid-Atlantic to destinations in The Bahamas, Bermuda, and the Caribbean.
Travelers can choose from seven-day Bahamas itineraries that visit Celebration Key, Nassau, RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, or Princess Cays. Seven-day Bermuda cruises allow passengers to spend three days exploring the scenic beauty and unique culture of Bermuda. For those seeking longer adventures, extended nine-, 12-, and 14-day Carnival Journeys voyages to destinations like Aruba, Curaçao, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, Antigua, Tortola, and Martinique are available.
The Carnival Pride, another Spirit-class ship, carries 2,134 passengers and features popular amenities such as the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse and the Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge.
Strategic Growth and Customer Experience
Carnival President Christine Duffy emphasized the importance of these updates in delivering more fun experiences that only Carnival can offer. “With fun on the move, we’re creating new options – a newer ship for Norfolk and a new series dedicated to Hawaii sailings from Long Beach are both great examples of that,” she said. “We’re also continuing our commitments in all our homeports, and Carnival Pride’s year-round deployment in Baltimore is a testament to that as well.”
From Baltimore to Norfolk and Long Beach, Carnival is proud to bring guests more opportunities to depart closer to home on itineraries that feature incredible destinations. Whether it’s a short trip to the Bahamas or an extended journey through the Caribbean, the cruise line continues to expand its offerings to meet the evolving needs of travelers.
